CEREC
Serving New York City & Manhattan, New York
One of the most recent and most advanced tools available in dental technology is CEREC. This machine is an advanced computer system that works as a dental restoration tool. With the aid of the CEREC, your dentist is able to restore or place the following dental fixtures in one appointment:
The Manhattan Restorative Dentist Office of Dr. Michael Iott and Associates are highly trained dental professionals skilled in the use of CEREC technology.
The Procedure
CEREC restoration uses ceramic material that is colored to match your own natural teeth. The milling unit manufactures the materials your dentist used from small blocks of ceramic that is cut to size by minute and precise mechanical tools. CEREC offers shorter visits, less drilling and fewer injections than other methods. Here are the steps involved in a typical CEREC procedure:
The CEREC camera takes a picture of your prepared tooth, then creates a three dimensional model of the tooth. Your aesthetic dentist uses this image to design your restoration on the computer screen.
Once the design is created, the milling unit creates the restoration from your dentist's computerized design. This process eliminates the time and expense involved in sending messy molds to a dental lab to be worked with. The final milling of your restoration is completed in 4–20 minutes. Once the CEREC has completed the final restoration, your dentist bonds it into place and your procedure is complete.
Materials Used
When you eat or drink something that is hot or cold, your natural tooth's enamel contracts and expands to tolerate the temperature changes. The materials used in CEREC technology to create restorations are designed to closely match that of a natural tooth. This action prevents both your natural teeth and the restorations from cracking.
The materials used in CEREC technology are also chemically bonded to your natural teeth. This allows your dentist to save and utilize more of your natural teeth during procedures than was possible in the past.
CEREC technology is not in use by all dentists at this time. CEREC is an expensive technology and the training and experience to use the equipment requires dedication and time on the part of the dentist who is using the equipment.
