With Dr. Iott’s one day smile makeovers, dreams really do come true. Our philosophy of building long lasting relationships ‘one smile at a time’ helps you quickly achieve the smile you’ve always dreamed of.

Teeth whitening is one of the safest, most effective ways to enhance the appearance of your smile and correct tooth discoloration. Dr. Iott and his staff in New York City understand that an esthetically pleasing, bright white smile is an increasingly important asset. So we offer several methods of whitening (bleaching) your teeth, both home bleaching kits and in-office bleaching procedures. Dr. Iott uses Brite Smile, Luma Arch, and Zoom to whiten your teeth in one short office visit. If appropriate, we may recommend a combination of these treatments.

Brite Smile

Brite Smile uses gas plasma light technology and bleaching gel to create a revolutionary method of teeth whitening which quickly, safely, and effectively whitens all teeth at once. The primary ingredient in BrightSmile’s gel is hydrogen peroxide, recognized as an effective bleaching agent by the dental community.

The percentage of hydrogen peroxide in BriteSmile’s proprietary gel is only 15%, which is lower than some other whitening products, some of which have 35%-50% hydrogen peroxide. The Brite Smile system uses a special light to activate the hydrogen peroxide and to speed up its action. You’ll be leaving our office in a little over an hour with a big white smile.

BriteSmile is safe for everyone and will not damage fillings or soften enamel. Generally speaking, a BriteSmile tooth whitening will cause no pain. If you have particularly sensitive teeth, you may have some temporary aching, but an over-the-counter pain medication will take care of it.

LumaArch

LumaArch is an alternative to BriteSmile. If you’d like to have your teeth whitened, but not dramatically, and would prefer not to do it at home, you can have it done in about 90 minutes in one visit to our office. The procedure is much the same as with Brite Smile. Dr. Iott will apply LumaWhite Tooth-Whitening Gel to your teeth, and use a halogen light to activate the bleaching agent and accelerate its action.

Home Bleaching

After Dr. Iott evaluates your teeth, and if you want to do it this way, he may agree that you could use a take-home whitening kit.

He would then take an impression of both your upper and lower teeth, and use it to make a model of each arch . Bleaching trays will be custom-made to these models so they will fit your teeth closely. He’ll also give you several syringes of bleaching gel.

Then in the comfort of your home, you can put some bleaching gel into the trays and fit the trays over your teeth. A daily session of about thirty minutes will result in a whiter, brighter smile.

Pre- & Post-Bleaching Care

Consult with Dr. Iott to determine which method offers the best whitening benefits for your teeth. He will make sure there is no superficial staining that needs removal before you begin, that your periodontal tissues are healthy, and that your gum levels are even. There should be no decay in your front teeth, and no pathology involved with any teeth previously traumatized.

After the whitening session, a dull toothache or gum sensitivity may occur. In these cases, Advil, Tylenol, or whatever you usually take for headaches is recommended. Brushing your teeth with Sensodyne toothpaste can also be helpful. Do not eat any colored foods, or drink any colored liquids (i.e., coffee, cola, wine, and ketchup) for 24 hours after the procedure, as these may stain your teeth.
